History of Reston Regional Library 

Reston Regional Library first opened its doors in September 1979. The library was built to serve the growing population of Reston, VA. Reston is a planned community that was developed in the 1960s. Reston Regional Library was designed to be a community gathering place and a resource for residents of Reston.

The library has undergone two major renovations since it opened. The first renovation took place in 2001 and expanded the library by 8,000 square feet. 

The second renovation took place in 2013 and added an additional 12,000 square feet to the library. As a result, Reston Regional Library is now one of the largest libraries in Fairfax County.

The Reston Regional Library has undergone several expansion projects over the years. In 1998, the library added a new wing that doubled its size. In 2008, the library underwent a major renovation that added more meeting and study rooms, an expanded children’s area, and improved accessibility.

The Structure

Reston Regional Library is three stories and houses over 200,000 items. The library has many books, magazines, newspapers, DVDs, and CDs. 

Reston Regional Library has a cafe, outdoor patio, and meeting rooms. The library is open seven days a week and offers a variety of programs and events for the community.

The Reston Regional Library is open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, Friday and Saturday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Sunday from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The library is closed on holidays.
